Wanted parolee among 5 nabbed in El Cerrito retail theft sting, hundreds in stolen merch recovered

El Cerrito police said five suspects were arrested — including a wanted parolee — and more than $1,500 in stolen merchandise were recovered during a retail theft sting Thursday.

Fentanyl, meth bound for San Francisco seized during Oakland bust: PD The targeted operation took place at the Marshall’s and CVS stores in El Cerrito Plaza, which also stopped four thefts in progress, according to police.

Police confirmed, “One of the individuals arrested was a wanted parolee with multiple prior theft convictions. Another suspect, who initially provided a false name, was found to have an outstanding warrant for grand theft and was in possession of fentanyl.”

Two killed at North Augusta Sprint store; suspect shot by officer

Authorities say two people are dead following an incident at a South Carolina convenience store that ended with an officer shooting and wounding an armed man.

The North Augusta Department of Public Safety said the the incident happened at 107 Edgefield Road, the location of the Sprint convenience store. Police said officers were dispatched to a shooting and encountered the armed suspect in the parking lot.

Police said the suspect was shot by a North Augusta officer. While his condition wasn't provided, police said he was taken to an area hospital for treatment. They added that there were two victims who had been shot at the location before officers arrived.

Waldorf Duo Faces Charges in Home Depot Heist Ring

Charles County Sheriff’s officers arrested two men accused of orchestrating five thefts totaling about $11,000 from the Home Depot store on Crain Highway.

The suspects, Darrell Lee Anderson, 63, of Washington, D.C., and Clifton Eugene Ratliff, 58, of Temple Hills, Md., allegedly used fake prepaid order documents to load carts with high-value items like flooring, molding, lighting fixtures, sinks and a refrigerator before driving away.

Officers with the Sheriff’s Neighborhood Enforcement Team spotted Anderson returning to the store, as he prepared for what investigators described as another attempted theft.

Ohio’s shoplifting rate 21% below national average, new FBI-based report finds

Ohio’s shoplifting rate is significantly lower than the national average, according to a new study by Summit Defense using FBI Crime Data Explorer figures.

The report found that Ohio recorded 298.69 shoplifting incidents per 100,000 residents in 2024 - 21% below the national average.

By contrast, New Mexico ranked the worst state for shoplifting, with 777.97 incidents per 100,000 residents, more than double the national rate.

Western states including Oregon and Arizona followed, ranking second and third, respectively.
