Woolworths shoppers concerned new anti-theft gates may trap them and hit their children

Australian grocery giant Woolworths is testing new exit security gates designed to reduce shoplifting, but the move is drawing mixed reactions from customers. The gates are intended to deter theft by controlling store exits and integrating with self-checkout systems. The rollout reflects the growing tension between retail security measures and customer experience.

Unlock Total Transparency Of Your Business With RFID

CONTROLTEK’s RFID solutions help retailers gain real-time visibility into their inventory while strengthening loss prevention across the store. By combining item-level RFID with intelligent software, retailers can track merchandise movement, identify shrink risks, and improve operational efficiency. The technology enables faster cycle counts, improved replenishment, and better on-shelf availability, helping stores keep products where customers expect them. RFID also supports smarter investigations by revealing unusual inventory activity and potential theft patterns.

The result is a connected system that brings together inventory accuracy, security, and store operations. For retailers looking to move beyond traditional EAS and manual inventory processes, RFID offers a powerful step toward smarter, data-driven retail protection.

The Intelligence Shift: Emerging AI Trends Shaping the Future of VSaaS

We are currently living through the largest technological shift of human productivity in history: artificial intelligence (AI). AI isn’t just a new tool; it’s a fundamental change in how knowledge is distributed and, therefore, how work is accomplished.

This shift builds upon a history of innovation. It began with the printing press, which enabled the widespread physical distribution of static information (books, newspapers). Next came the internet, where information became dynamic, capable of changing instantly, and was delivered digitally. Now, we have Generative AI, which transforms the landscape again by allowing information to be generated and delivered simultaneously while also being hyper personalized, if needed.

Currently, roughly 2,300 of Walmart’s approximately 5,200 U.S. locations are already using digital shelf labels. The retail giant said it expects the technology, which allows the chain to easily update product prices and eliminates paper tags, to be implemented across all its U.S. stores within the next year.

Prior to digital shelf labels, Walmart store associates had to ensure that each of the tens of thousands of products carried in its stores displayed a clear, accurate price.
